The Wonders Of Cinnamon - More Than Merely A Scented Stick

By : Fadzil

A few days ago, I was watching my wife cooking in the kitchen and going through the different spices on the spice rack. Something is still lacking in her soup taste, she thought. The smell and the aroma just didn’t quite click, still no “ummph”, as I always say it. We both then realized she has forgotten the one thing that completes it. It is none other than the cinnamon stick.

After I have done some reading, only then I realized there is more than just aroma and taste this particular ingredient gives to our cooking. There is a lot more. Since my wife uses it often, we both need to know what else this cinnamon can really benefit us. You will be amazed at what the cinnamon stick in your kitchen can actually cure. How about helping you reduce weight? How about helping you look young (it also acts as anti-aging effect). How about helping you reduce your cholesterol level? Well, let’s find out.

About Cinnamon
Cinnamon stick, or its scientific name, Cinnamoman Burmani, is a type of spice in the form of sticks (actually skin peeled out of a Cinnamon tree). It is normally used to add flavor in cooking and sometimes it is also used in health and beauty products (examples are soaps, lip gloss, shower/bath cream, etc). In its natural form, it is spicy, a little sweet, hot and has beautiful aroma. Cinnamon is widely cultivated in tropical countries where the weather is hot and humid.

Here is the interesting part, cinnamon can actually be a remedy for these problems:

Reducing hair loss
Cinnamon can help reduce hair loss. Mix some hot olive oil, one tablespoon of honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder. Apply the mixture on your head all over your hair like you will do when using shampoo. Let it stay for 15 minutes. Wash and rinse your hair with your everyday shampoo right after. Try this method once a week.

Killing bacteria in testes
This is obviously for men only. How? Drink a glass of warm water, mixed with 2 tablespoons of powdered cinnamon with 1 spoon of honey. Do this everyday.

Reducing tooth ache
Cinnamon is also good to reduce tooth ache. Mix one spoon of cinnamon powder with 5 spoons of honey and apply to the problem tooth everyday until the pain goes away.

Reducing cholesterol
Cinnamon can also lower your cholesterol level. Just add 2 tablespoons of honey and 3 tablespoons of cinnamon powder into a teapot of tea. Drink this, it is just replacing the sugar you normally take.

Reducing stomach ache
Cinnamon can also be a cure for stomach ache. Taking cinnamon powder with honey is a good practice to clean your stomach.

Reducing stomach wind
The Indians and Japanese practice drinking honey and cinnamon to rectify this problem.

Eliminating bad breadth
People in South America are said to practice having their tea with cinnamon to avoid bad breadth.

Controlling obesity
This is the best and simple too. Don’t take anything before breakfast, boil some water mixed with some honey and cinnamon powder. Drink a glass of this everyday about half hour before breakfast. The cinnamon is said to avoid fat from accumulating in your body.

Reducing acne
Mixture of cinnamon and honey (mix 3 tablespoons of honey and 1 tablespoon of cinnamon powder) can actually be used as a mask, it is said that applying this every night before sleeping for two weeks can reduce acne. Wash your face with warm water in the morning.

Acting as anti-aging substance
This is said and believed by many. The practice of drinking tea mixed with honey and of course the magical cinnamon powder will help you stay young.

After knowing the benefit of Cinnamon to our health, I’m pretty sure you would like to know more about your own favorite herbs and spices. That means there are more good news for us. At least now when we are cooking, we know that we are adding something more than just the good smell of herbs and spices!
